The main-board is replaced with a self designed circuit board.
Through the control from this board the disk drives act as music instruments.
Speed with that a machine part drives determines the tone pitch of its sound.
The new issue of off topic, the KHM magazine for media art, will be released on Friday, November 6th. Under the title “aufräumen” (clearing up) it features several Lab3 related projects and topics. Among these are an article by Andreas Muxel about his piece › CONNECT, an interview with Severin Hacker by Ludwig Zeller dealing with “human computing” and the idea of a net-based “aesthetic measure”, and a report by Stefan Göllner about the relation of software development and urban planning in the project › Unortkataster Köln.
The exhibition lab30, the 8th Augsburg Media Art Laboratory, will feature “Test arrangements in an Electro-Biotope”. Two recent works of Lab3 will be part of the biotope:
› Sensobotanics (a real plant plays a first person shooter)
› I am scared, but i love… (an instrument based on your hopes and EEG).
Ludwig Zeller is nominated for the “Kölner Designpreis 2009″ with his diploma thesis project Cognition On The Edge / › CubeBrowser.

Dabei steht die Wechselwirkung zwischen Materialisierungs- und Dematerialisierungsprozessen im Mittelpunkt. Ziel ist es, zur ISEA 2010 – International Symposium on Electronic Arts vom 20.-29. August 2010 – im Rahmen von Ausstellungsbeiträgen, Präsentationen und Aktionen die Resultate zu präsentieren.
Ralf Baecker and Andreas Muxel will be part of the Share Festival 2009 in Torino. “Market Forces” is the theme of the fifth edition of Piemonte Share Festival. They present their projects › Rechnender Raum and › CONNECT.
Both of them are also nominated for the Share Price.
This is an interactive installation in which small parachutes move up and down in the air, as if jellyfish are swimming in the water. The parachutes move away from someone who approaches them. It lets viewers feel invisible air, space, and time.
Andreas Muxel will present his project › CONNECT at the Cyberarts 2009 Exhibition at the ARS Electronica Festival in Linz. The festival is held under the Topic “Human Nature – The Reinvention of Nature”. It also is ARS Electronica’s 30th anniversary and Linz is Europe’s 2009 Capital of Culture.
As part of the Migrating Art Academies, Laboratory III, Lasse Scherffig will briefly introduce the history of the creation of time and space from astronomy to GPS. Then, tools and techniques for watching satellites are introduced and may be experienced in an open lab situation.
