Working with code and material, artists, designers and architects face similar problems but treat differing questions and draw on diverse traditions and methodologies. In a meeting at Bauhaus-University Weimar, students of Lab3, Weimar (design of medial environments/art), FH-Mainz (design, time based media, interior architecture) and FH-Ansbach (multimedia) come together to discuss and share artistic strategies, technological approaches and concrete objects.

We examine theories, methods and concrete examples of how to use code and materials in order to get complex and even unexpected results “ex machina” from simple set-ups. Special attention will be paid to the interplay of programming and production and to the notion of feedback in technical systems.

This history is told by the facades of the city’s buildings that seem composed of four layers: Ottoman, Habsburgian, socialist and post-modern periods of administration.
