A small ball is positioned on a free floating plate that is suspended from the ceiling at approximately one meter height. The inclination of the surface can be controlled by three servo motors, to which the plate is connected with thin ropes.

Depending on the position of the ball on the plate – which is tracked from above by using a webcam affixed to the ceiling – the system “tries” to anticipate that the ball falls off by adjusting the servos´ position to regulate the inclination of the surface.

Whenever the ball approaches the edges, the system countersteers the balls´ movement and makes it roll back to the centre.
