Ursula Damm: Acting in an Environment

This friday Ursula Damm will be our guest at the seminar Technisches Sehen.

Her talk about Acting in an Environment will deal with the idea of art works as small models of the world. They answer questions how the world is constituted and how the treated elements themselves are interconnected to one another (Andrew Pickering*). Ursula Damm presents works in her lecture, which include the idea of “technisches Sehen” (as a technical mode of seeing). She wants to show a development of her settings of seeing cameras up to seeing animals, taking these example as a basis for discussion, what kind of conception of world is inherent and how this self-conception is expressed in forming it.

Acting in an Environment
Kunstwerke sind – oft jedes für sich – kleine Weltmodelle. Sie beantworten Fragen, wie die Welt sich konstituiert und wie die behandelten Elemente zueinander stehen, sagt Andrew Pickering*.
Im Vortrag stellt Ursula Damm Werke vor, welche technisches Sehen in ihre Konstruktion aufgenommen haben und zeigt die Entwicklung ihrer Settings von sehenden Kameras hin zu sehenden Tieren. Anhand der Beispiele kann diskutiert werden, welches Verständnis von Welt den Werken inhärent ist und wie dieses Selbstverständnis sich gestaltend ausdrückt.
