SIGINT is an annual conference organized by the Chaos Computer Club in Cologne. It features a number of interesting panels, talks and presentations. In addition, KHM-based re-active platform was invited to present a number of artistic works in there. One of these is currently being developed at Lab3.
We use a piezo element “reversed” as a kind of microphone for sensing subaudio sounds like knocks, vibrations or other impact sound sources. The setup requires a piezo disk, an Arduino (best in combination with a SensorAktor Shield which has an built-in high impedance amplifier) and – most importantly – a reaction force (e.g. a 50 gram fishing plumb weight). This setup is able to detect footsteps in a room or even keyboard strokes on a table.
This Synchronizer plays two or more DVDs simultaneously with conventional off the shelf DVD players. It works as an automated infrared remote control. We are using this device since years here at the KHM for the purpose of exhibitions, art objects, video sculptures and so on. Also this technique can be used to control MP3 players, cameras or any other device with a infrared control.
The workshop › Point and Click with Aram Bartholl generated a number of projects that deal with adventure games and online and offline worlds. The projects take the form of experiments, games and interventions. They are presented at the computer game conference Next Level on April 20th-21st. In addition, a reader featuring the projects is in print. It can be obtained at the conference, a PDF can be found at: http://pixelsix.net/pointclick/
